چکیده

This paper describes the numerical simulation of the extraction of volatile pollutants from unsaturated ground by in-situ gas venting. The problem is described by a twodimensional, time-dependent, multiphase porous media ow model. Sorption of the pollutants to the soil surface is included. The simulation software is based upon the SPRINT2D adaptive unstructured mesh PDE software, with a new Galerkin Finite Element module incorporating an upstream stabilisation technique. Automatic spatial mesh adaptivity is shown to provide signi cant e ciency and accuracy bene ts. The prototype venting simulator SPVENT is described, and example results and future developments are presented.

Mathematical Modeling of Natural in Situ Bioremediation to Estimate Initial Contaminant Concentration Effect

A mathematical model has been simulated to describe natural in situ bioremediation of contaminated soil. The model equations consist of a system of three non-linear partial differential equations. Sensitivity analysis conducted by numerically solving them, has demonstrated the effect of initial contaminant concentration on the time and mechanism of remediation. The result of simulation indicate...

Use of nanoscale zero-valent iron to improve the shear strength parameters of gas oil contaminated clay

In recent years, the nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) particles have been used successfully for the degradation of hydrocarboncompounds and remediation of other pollutants. Nevertheless, as far as we know, there is no specific study on the improvement of thegeotechnical properties of contaminated soils with hydrocarbon compounds by NZVI. This study used NZVI particles to remove gasoil in a cla...

Application of exogenous organic acids and remediation process of lead and cadmium contamination in canola plants. Hakimeh Oloumi*, Effat Ahmadi Mousavi and Neda Hasibi

Heavy metal contamination of soil, water and air has caused serious environmental hazard in the biosphere due to rapid industrialization and urbanization. A variety of metal binding ligands such as organic acids and amino acids involve in the heavy metal remediation mechanisms by plants. This paper analyses the possible role of amino acid histidine and organic acids, namely, citric, oxalic and ...

Soil Remediation Using Nano Zero-valent Iron Synthesized by an Ultrasonic Method

A new method for the synthesis of nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) was developed in the present study. Ultrasonic waves, as a novel method, were used to synthesize the nanoparticles. The morphology and surface compositions of the particles were characterized by using FESEM, XRD, BET, and particle size analyzer. The synthesized nanoparticles were then utilized as a Fenton-like catalyst to degrade of...
